The event

Lantern Light Village is the museum's self-guided holiday evening: the 19th-century seaport village lit by lanterns, with music, fires and a story threaded through the buildings. The 2026 dates are December 3 to 6, 10 to 13, and 17 to 23, from 2 to 8:30 p.m.

Entry is timed and staggered every thirty minutes from 2 p.m., with the last entry at 7 p.m., so the ticket fixes the arrival hour and the evening flows from there.

Planning the evening

The village is outdoors and the December waterfront is cold; the museum's stops give warmth in between, but the walk between them is the experience. A 4 or 4:30 p.m. entry catches the last daylight and the full lighting.

Mystic's downtown and Stonington borough are a few minutes away for dinner, which is why a base on this stretch of coast turns the visit into a weekend rather than a drive.

Good to know

  • Friday and Saturday slots and the final week sell out first; Thursdays and Sundays are the easier bookings.
  • The ticket is for a timed entry; arrive close to your slot rather than early.
  • Confirm dates, hours and pricing on the museum's page before booking a room around it.
